Hello everyone! I’m Shelly and I live in beautiful Golden, Colorado with my husband and my Boston Terrier, Sophie. I’m a Colorado native and we enjoy hiking, riding our Harley Davidson motorcycles and just spending time together. My husband is semi-retired and we’re getting used to having more time to travel and have fun!
In 2010 I realized that I was unhappy and fat and on my way to being sick and I didn’t like my job as a lawyer. I weighed 278 pounds (I’m 5’9” tall) and just didn’t like who I had become. I felt unattractive and hated to buy clothes. I was addicted to food and often ate alone and hid my eating from friends and my husband. I didn’t want to do much of anything and was really at the end of my rope.
I quit my job and with the help of a very dear friend I was introduced to the video “Eating”. I watched the video and it was enlightening. At the end I saw that Dr. Fuhrman was involved with the making of the video and he had written a book “Eat to Live”. It sounded familiar, and I raced to my bookshelf to find that I already had a copy of the book. Not surprising since I owned every diet book ever written! I read the book quickly and committed to the 6-week plan. In the first 6 weeks I lost about 30 pounds and was hooked. I continued losing weight quickly and within about 10 months lost over 125 pounds, down to 150.
Weighing 150 felt fabulous! I was able to buy cute and stylish clothes and I became more active and more confident! My health improved and I had so much more energy. I also discovered Pilates and fell in love with it. I took lots of classes and even started working part-time as a receptionist at a local studio. I loved it so much I eventually became a certified teacher and teach Pilates part-time now! It has certainly helped tone my body and keeps me strong and fit. Because of Eat To Live, I really had a complete lifestyle change and am healthier and happier than I have ever been!
I’ve maintained at 150 until this last year! I’ve been eating fewer salads and vegetables and eating more breads and simple carbohydrates and the result is that I’ve gained weight! I feel horrible, and it really scares me! This morning I weighed 173.8! Ouch!
I’m stepping a little out of my comfort zone joining this group. But I am committed to following the Eat to Live plan and getting back to my healthy weight of 150! I’m grateful to have this group andI look forward to getting to know you all and making progress together!
